Before any member of staff joins Inter-County we carry out:
- Face to face interview
- A check on work and medical history
- CRB/POVA check
- NMC PIN Check (Nurses)
We ask for:
- 2 written references
- Verification of identity
- Documentary evidence of all qualifications and training
We conduct:
- Relevant training
- Annual appraisal and supervised monitoring
- Supervisions and assessments
This results in:
- Analysis of members of staff to match skills to chosen work sector.
A three day induction course is undertaken by all carers prior to commencing work which covers the following areas:

- Internal company policies and procedures.
- Manual Handling - Courses are available for all staff to attend and they must hold a current certificate before being placed for work.
- Health & Safety - Covering all areas of health and safety and including risk assessment, fire safety, your safety, dealing with emergencies, control of substances hazardous to health, hygiene and infection control, protective clothing and communicable diseases.
- Food Hygiene - Issues such as safe food handling, nutrition and feeding are discussed.
- Prevention of Abuse - Guidelines and instruction on how to treat people with dignity and respect are important issues when dealing with vulnerable adults.
- First Aid - First Aid guidelines are dealt with both theory and practice.
Inter-County is pro-active in its training policy and encourages all carers to participate in
on-going training. The following represents some of the additional, specialist course offered by
Inter-County:
- LDAF (Learning Disability Awards Framework)
- Loss & Bereavement
- Experience of Dementia
- Fire Safety
- Infection Control
We recognise the importance of carers gaining formal qualifications in Care. We offer financial
support to individuals undertaking NVQ level 2 or 3 in Care, and assist them, wherever possible,
in achieving their goals.
We aim to support all our nursing staff with PREP and will inform them on a regular basis of any
training courses or seminars that are taking place in the local area. All nurses recruited by
Inter-County undertake a formal induction programme with on-going supervision.
