Senior Healthcare Worker

Purpose of role

To support the provision of a quality service, ensuring clients experience care of the highest standards and in line with the relevant regulatory requirements.

To support staff to reach their full potential and monitor working practice to ensure standards are being met. Good organizational skills together with a calm and caring manner are vital for this role.

To support clients with all aspects of their day to day living, providing a quality service that supports them to live life in the way that they choose. You will need to have excellent communication skills, compassion and a calm and friendly nature. A flexible, reliable and caring approach is essential to this role.

Duties

Work well with clients

  • Support Manager to: Review and assess needs of individuals, ensuring that the tailored plan of care and support respects the client’s wishes and promotes their dignity and privacy; Maintain risk control measures to reduce identified risks; Maintain effective records and provide prompt feedback to relevant personnel. Support manager to keep care and support plans up to date
  • Provide the client and where appropriate their representatives with information about the service so that they are clear about what to expect and how they can raise any concerns
  • Keep all information about clients and their families secure and confidential JD & Person Spec – Senior Healthcare Worker
  • Provide care and support that is non-discriminatory, person-centred and values the diverse and unique qualities of each client. Help individuals to make their own decisions and be as independent as possible by asking how they prefer their care and support to be delivered on a daily basis.

Work well with staff

  • Give care staff appropriate information and guidance to effectively and safely provide care and support as agreed in the care and support plan
  • Report concerns about working practice to the Manager without delay
  • Provide support to care staff during “Shadow” visits
  • Report changes to care schedules/care plans without delay to relevant personnel
  • Provide advice, training, mentoring and other support to Care Staff as required
  • Effectively deal with emergency issues, for example covering calls either directly or indirectly when Care Workers are sick or absent.

Work well as part of the Inter-County team

  • Follow Inter-County policies, procedures and guidance at all times
  • Take part in staff and client meetings
  • Attend training activities, supervision, appraisal and development meetings
  • Make sure that care and support is provided in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Work effectively with clients, their families and representatives, other social and health care professionals and managers and staff from InterCounty to deliver high quality homecare services
  • Keep all information about customers and their families secure and confidential

Quality improvement

  • Assist with investigations relating to the quality of the service and improvement actions
  • Adhere to Inter-County policies and procedures at all times and make sure accidents and incidents are recorded, reported and acted upon
  • Make sure that care and support is provided in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Work effectively with clients, their families and representatives, other social and health care professionals and managers and staff from InterCounty to deliver high quality homecare services

Knowledge and understanding

  • Good understanding of the needs of people who require care and support at home
  • Knowledge of effective care and support planning that is person centred and meets the individual needs and wishes of each client
  • QCF/NVQ L2/3 or equivalent
  • Knowledge of what confidentiality means in relation to homecare services and why this is important
  • Good understanding of health and safety matters in relation to homecare services and of the risk assessment process
  • Sound understanding of the principles of good care practice

Experience and skills

  • Experience of communicating clearly and building positive working relationships with people who use social care services and social and health care professionals
  • Ability to support clients with all aspects of their daily living in a manner that respects their dignity, is non-judgmental and promotes their independence, choices and privacy
  • Experience of care services
  • Skills in care and risk assessments and writing care and support plans
  • Ability to plan and organise workloads effectively so that clients receive the services that they expect
  • Ability to use own initiative and work alone or as part of a team especially in an emergency
  • Good administrative skills and computer literacy
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of care workers and provide appropriate support, guidance and training
  • Ability to maintain clear written records and follow statutory reporting procedures
  • Ability and willingness to follow Inter-County’s policies, procedures and instructions

Additional requirements

  • Willingness to work flexibly and to keep knowledge and skills up to date
  • This role will require you to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service formally known as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure
  • Full drivers licence with no more than 6 points and Class 1 business insurance

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of supervising the delivery of social care services
  • Previous experience of risk assessment and person centred care and support planning
  • Knowledge of how to recognise abuse and safeguarding procedures
